SPR will form 3 enforcement teams to monitor election
It is reported that SPR’s enforcement teams will monitor the elections-but not sure if they can do anything more than trivial issues like managing posters, banners etc, going by past records.
SPR disallow PR parties to campaign
The excuse is the SPR does not recognise the PR as a legal entity. However the political parties are not registered with SPR-but with ROS(Registrar of Societies). The decision to recognise only BN seems to be arbitrary and politically bias.
As a systemic/policy solution SPR should take over the registration of political parties from the ROS. Other than that SPR should require ROS not to make registration of political parties difficult ie requiring political consent from the ruling parties-which make registration of new political parties difficult and allow ROS to meddle into party affairs. SOme political parties are deregistered under suspicious circumstances when they are in Opposition, while pro-ruling parties can register in a matter of days!
