Hours after KL High Court declared that PR’s Nizar has been the only Perak’s MB the BN MB Zambry succeeded today to obtain a `stay’ for the declaration-something rare in legal sense. Now Zambry can take his time to do his appeal while claiming himself to be the MB, while there are actually many question marks over his legitimacy as well as, more importantly, his popularity in Perak!
When a political issue is brought to court for a decision the judges seems to put themselves up as the arbiter on who should be the MB of the people-which is never their role. Only voters decide on political issues like this. With a court case expected to drag on for months the people of Perak and Malaysia are the ones who suffer -as the world will look upon a state without a clear authority with suspicion, and they look on the institutions in Malaysia that deal with this issue -the civil servants, the courts, the royalty, the other politicians etc, with cynicism!
The issue is simple enough: while BN claim to have a majority in the State Assembly-when the 3 political`frogs’ are counted as the people’s representatives, they can hardly claim to have a corresponding popularity among the voters. In fact the BN MB Zambry self consciously said that he does not want to consult the people on the issue now. Why if he is confident that he indeed command the people’s trust as his claimed position imply?
