Wong Chin Huat has been released this afternoon-with his spirit high. He will have to return to police station to report himself and wait for the prosecution on Sedition and another charge. Many others arrested in the last 48 hours were also released on bail or unconditionally. But the struggle for democracy is still continuing. It is most unhelpful that when the struggle start to heat up some `tired’ journalist who don’t see the chances ahead for the media to pronounce their take on the Ipoh poeple that they are `tired’ of `politicking’!
It is another of the same take that `people’ are `tired’ of by-elections-while veritably all voters facing by-elections are happy that a by-election has come to town!
It is not common for people to have a chance to voice out their unhappiness about the politicians and their dubious under counter dealings or even overt thuggeries. The Ipoh episodes exposed how the politicians who hold power over the police and the civil servants are manouvering to get their ways -even knocking off traditionally held conventions and consensus over the sovreignty of the State Assembly. The glimpses exposed the raw side of power politics-no one closed their eyes for a second when these are unfolding in front of their eyes. Only the lazy journalists are getting `tired’ when the action shots are waiting to be shot!
More actions are coming up-keep your eyes and ears open.
