There are now more and more open speculations that the Perak State Assembly would be dissolved soon. Reasons offered: Bkt Gantang by-election acted as a referendum that the voters back PR leadership, irrespective of the 3 defections that deprived it of a majority in the Assembly persons’ count.
Objections to this proposal include the costs of running an election. Of course if there are a lot of government allocations are needed by some party to win an election then the financial issue is real. However if they campaign by the legal limit (RM200 000/MPs) the cost isn’t that high at all!
On the other hand the cost of not holding a State election would be tremendous!
The civil servants caught in between 2 bosses -so can choose whose directive to follow/not to follow. Investors don’t know who to speak to.
So the cost of democracy isn’t always high! But the costs of no democracy could be untold!
