8 Special Branch members who barged into the polling centre ar Saraswathy School was successfully ejected from the polling centre at the instigation of 2 Mafrel observers on duty there. Earlier we were alerted to this case and was sending reinforcement through our mobile team. Before the mobile team arrived the issue was settled.
SB tend to impose themselves on the society by claiming special power, even putting themselves above the uniformed police. So often the Sbs’ presence in restricted zones are condoned by the uniformed colleagues. So when the Mafrel observers told the police on duty they were reluctant to take action on the SBs. But section 5 of the Election Offence Act, 1954, specifically prohibit anyone without a SPR tag to hang around the restricted polling zone.
